2026 Winter Scholarship Winners

Three students from The Castroville Conservatory were awarded the Margaret Reus Music Scholarship Award from the newly formed Castroville Music Society. The award-- named for honorary member and donor, Margaret Reus-- was based on the students' outstanding achievement in passing the Royal Conservatory of Music Assessment Exam. The RCM Exam is an internationally recognized assessment that measures technical skills, as well as music performance. Students must play three pieces of contrasting style, in addition to being tested on sight-reading, rhythmic skills, scales, and memorization. Dr. Zelda M. Reus, piano instructor at The Castroville Conservatory, prepared students for the recent exam.
The Castroville Music Society was formed to help develop artist citizens who love and appreciate the gift of music as a fine art. They endeavor to support a merit-based scholarship fund for exceptional music students and provide instrument donations for those in need. Meetings are to be held quarterly. A Spring Kick-off Banquet is planned for March 5th.
Requirements for Active Membership are the following:
1. Living/ working in the community or community involvement.
2. A love of music and the arts.
3. Sponsorship by an existing member.
